1. Causes and treatment methods of excessively high compressor suction temperature:

compressor temperature
  • Insufficient refrigerant charge: Even when the expansion valve is fully opened, the supply flow remains constant. This causes refrigerant vapor to overheat in the evaporator and increases the suction temperature. It can also affect the temperature of the compressor negatively. This is usually due to a lack of refrigerant. Check for leaks and add refrigerant.
  • Excessive expansion valve opening: This results in insufficient refrigerant circulation in the system. Consequently, there is insufficient refrigerant entering the evaporator, leading to high superheat and high suction temperature. This may be caused by an offset in the resistance of the temperature sensor controlling the electronic expansion valve. Alternatively, it could be due to a blockage in the copper pipe at the temperature measurement location.
  • Clogged filter at the electronic expansion valve port: Insufficient refrigerant flow in the evaporator reduces the refrigerant flow. Consequently, some areas are occupied by superheated vapor, increasing the suction temperature. Additionally, poorly insulated or excessively long return air ducting can cause excessively high suction temperature. Dismantle the ducting, clear the blockage, and re-commission the equipment carefully to manage compressor temperature.

2. Main causes of high compressor discharge temperature:

  • The main causes of high compressor discharge temperature: System refrigerant shortage: All compressor top and discharge temperatures are high. This causes frost in the return air pipe, low return air pressure, and low current. Additional refrigerant is crucial to normalize compressor temperature.
  • Compressor return air pipe filter is clogged: The faulty compressor's top temperature is high, but the discharge temperature is low. The top temperatures of other compressors are low. This is because the faulty compressor is not drawing refrigerant, and refrigerant is diverted to other compressors. Consequently, there is excessive intake volume in those compressors.
  • Outdoor unit main return air pipe filter is clogged: The compressor top temperature is too high, resulting in essentially no temperature or pressure in the discharge air. This prevents the four-way valve from reversing during heating. The pressures at the gas and liquid shutoff valves are essentially the same. The main return air pipe is completely frosted from the filter onwards. If the blockage is caused by dirt, the main return air pipe filter needs cleaning. If the blockage is caused by ice, a filter needs to remove moisture from the system.
  • Compressor return air pipe filter is clogged with ice: If the blockage is not severe, a dry filter can be used to remove moisture from the system. When the ice blockage is serious, and there is a lot of water in the system, it is necessary to replace the refrigeration oil and refrigerant containing water. Purge the system with dry nitrogen to stabilize compressor performance.
